Discover Stadshuset, the beating heart of Stockholm
Crowned by the Three Golden Crowns, the tall brick tower of Stockholm’s City Hall is one of its most iconic landmarks. Walk the grounds, and learn about the Nobel Prize banquet held here. Your Local Xpert will point out symbols of Swedish history and public life in the City Hall’s courtyards, as you enjoy an expansive view of the city.
Wander through the dark history of the Old Town
Follow the narrow, cobblestone alleys of Gamla Stan as they twist between ochre-coloured houses. Step into the era of Vikings, merchants and monarchs as we uncover Sweden’s past, from the bloody chapter of Stortorget, where executions once took place, to the subdued Royal Palace. Time your visit right, and you’ll catch the Changing of the Guard, held daily at 12:15pm (except Sundays). You’ll discover the legends of heroes and foes who conquered and lost Stockholm.
Admire the grand Vasa ship that never made it out of Stockholm
Rising almost intact after 333 years under water, the Vasa is covered in carvings of warriors, gods, and mythical creatures, and towers at 52.5 metres (172 feet) tall. Find out why this display of Sweden’s military might sank on her maiden voyage almost 400 years ago. We’ll meet outside the main entrance to the City Hall (facing the main road). Your Local Xpert will be easy to spot in a brick orange “Xperience Stockholm” hat and name tag.

Riddarholmen

We moved from City Hall to Gamla Stan to the Vasa Museum with ease! Ana paced our walk perfectly, and since we were ready for all of the major sites we visited, the time flew. Ana was not only personable, but she knew the neighborhoods well and directed us to just the right spot for a fika break and also Sol Market, a purveyor of indigenous arts and one of a kind treasures. Ana made Stockholm readily accessible to us from the starting orientation of the islands to the ferry service we needed to return home. Just the right introduction to such a memorable city!

We started at City Hall, learning about its architecture, the Three Crowns symbol, and the origins of the city. From the waterfront, we looked over Gamla Stan and Riddarholmen, with clear explanations of how the different islands developed and who lived there. Walking through the Old Town, we explored narrow medieval streets, saw rune stones built into walls, and heard stories about everyday life in the past. The tour ended with a ferry to Djurgården, where we visited the Vasa Museum. A big added value was that the guide also shared great recommendations on what else to see in Stockholm.

What to bring
Bring easy layers and nowhere urgent to be. Our experience runs in the sun or clouds, so you may also find these valuable: sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, refillable water bottle, and umbrella, because you never know what Nordic weather might serve.
Activities to plan for
This is a low-intensity experience with mostly flat paths, plenty of stops, and opportunities to sit along the way. You’ll still be on your feet for much of the three hours, so comfortable walking shoes are a good idea.

Our Stockholm Must-Sees run on Fridays and Saturdays year-round. Groups are capped at 10 guests. Once a departure is full, it’s full.
