From Paris to Stockholm: what I learned during my internship

And just like that, my internship in Stockholm has come to an end. What a ride it’s been!

My name is Gabriel, I’m a 22-year-old business student from INSEEC Paris, and over the last three months, I had the chance to be part of a unique adventure at XperienceSthlm – a boutique tourism company offering curated experiences in Stockholm for curious travelers looking for something different.

I didn’t come here just to check a box on my academic roadmap. I came to challenge myself, sharpen my professional skills, and explore a culture I didn’t know much about. Spoiler alert: I left with more than I ever expected.

The start of something new

Before joining XperienceSthlm, I had worked in retail and inside sales, mostly in fast-paced environments focused on short-term results. This time, I wanted to try something more strategic, creative, and international.

When I found out about XperienceSthlm, it immediately clicked. A company that combines tourism, storytelling, partnerships, and authenticity? Count me in. From the first call with Fran, the founder and CEO, I felt like I’d found the right place to grow.

I came on board as a Business Development Partner & Leads Intern, a title that might sound fancy but basically meant: identifying new opportunities, reaching out to hotels and concierges, and helping co-create experiences tailored for luxury travelers.

Every day was different

No two days were the same. One morning I’d be reaching out to a 5-star hotel to pitch them our exclusive offer. The next, I’d be helping refine a proposal for a premium cultural experience in the atelier of a Swedish artist. I also got to research the expectations of high-end international visitors and imagine what “Stockholm off-the-beaten path” could look like for them.

There was a lot of autonomy, which taught me to be resourceful. There was a lot of trust, which pushed me to speak up. And there was a lot of trial and error, which taught me the value of learning by doing.

Highlights & takeaways

  • One of my favorite moments? Sitting down with guides, hoteliers, and artists to brainstorm collaborations. I realized how powerful local partnerships are in delivering truly meaningful travel experiences.
  • One of my biggest challenges? Writing and pitching in English to seasoned professionals. But by the end of the internship, I was way more confident and precise in how I expressed ideas.
  • One of the most unexpected parts? How inspiring it felt to be part of a team that genuinely cares about the city, about the craft, and about each other.

Working closely with Fran was also a highlight in itself. She’s not just a CEO, she’s a mentor, and someone who leads with kindness and clarity. I learned a lot simply by observing how she communicates, works and empowers others.
